Four disciplines, one standard of care
Every engagement is scoped around the client in front of us. Below is what we do, described plainly. If your project sits between two disciplines, that is normal — most of ours do.
Brand identity
Marks, typography, color, voice, and the printed matter that introduces an organization to the world — business cards, letterheads, signage, and launch materials.
Editorial & print
Books, journals, catalogues, programs, and annual reports, designed and art-directed from first layout through production and the final press check.
Web design
Considered, accessible websites that read well and load quickly, designed page by page and supported through build, launch, and the improvements that follow.
Illustration
Commissioned illustration for covers, editorial features, packaging, and wayfinding, drawn with intent and matched to the voice of the publication.
Brand identity
An identity is the grammar of an organization: the set of rules that lets it speak consistently wherever it appears. We begin with discovery — interviews, audience research, and a careful reading of the field you work in — before anything is drawn. From there we develop the name's supporting cast: the mark, the typefaces, the palette, and the tone of voice, each chosen to hold up in print, on screen, and at a distance. Engagements usually close with a concise identity guide written in plain English, so your team can use the system without calling us for every decision. We also stay available afterwards, because identities are living things and occasionally need a careful hand.
Editorial & print design
Print is where the studio first learned its craft, and it remains the discipline we hold closest. We design books, exhibition catalogues, literary journals, seasonal programs, and annual reports for independent publishers and cultural organizations. The work is typographic at its core: grids set generously, hierarchies made clear, paper stocks chosen with the budget and the object both in mind. Keith supervises production personally, from the first proofs to the press check, so that what arrives from the printer matches what was designed at the desk. For clients who publish regularly, we build reusable templates and production routines that make each new issue faster and steadier than the last.
Web design
We design websites the way we design pages: with reading in mind. That means clear structure, honest hierarchy, type that is comfortable at every size, and pages that load quickly on ordinary connections. Accessibility is treated as a baseline rather than a feature, and content is planned before layout so the site is built around what you actually need to say. The studio art-directs every page and works alongside trusted developers for the build, staying involved through launch and beyond. Most web engagements pair naturally with an identity or editorial project, and we are glad to take on websites on their own when the fit is right.
Illustration
Illustration at Gramm Arcu is commissioned work, made for a specific page, cover, package, or wall. We develop drawings that carry the voice of the publication they belong to — loose when the subject is loose, exact when it needs to be — and we deliver in every format the production requires, from print-resolution files to assets prepared for screen. Sketches are shared early so the direction can be agreed before finish work begins, and revisions follow the same patient rhythm as the rest of our practice. Illustration is available as part of a larger engagement or as a standalone commission.
If your project calls for something that sits between these disciplines, write to us anyway. Half of the studio's best work began as a question that did not fit neatly into a category.
